WABY is turning 3 BABY on Saturday November 14th we will be throwing a party at Slidin’ Dirty in Troy. We’ve got a killer line up of great bands ready to rock all night with you. A highlight of the night will be the return of Anacortez. I recently got to chat with Jessie about the show and what the band has been up to.

Who is the best band or artist you’ve seen live?

My favorite show probably would have been Blink 182 with My Chemical Romance

For Mike? Van Halen

You’ve been away for 2 years - welcome back. What’s been going on during that time?

A lot of different things for all of us. For the band in general, we gained an extra guitar player when we reunited. We also have Zach (our first bass player who last performed with us in 2023) back.

What inspired you to return now, and how does it feel stepping back into the scene?

The timing seemed right and we all missed jamming together. Returning now feels amazing. We can’t wait to see our fans at the anniversary show!

What bands influence your sound, and have those influences changed since the last time we heard you play?

We all come from different backgrounds. We each have such different influences and tastes. For instance, I love pop-punk and emo music and I’m inspired by a lot of early 2000s warped tour bands. Pretty much any of those bands you can think of. I also really like female fronted bands like Paramore, Flyleaf, Evanescence, etc.

Mike and Kevin share some of those tastes but they have a background in the hardcore and metal scene and it bleeds through in our sound. Zach likes SO MANY genres but he’s also a bit of a music snob. He has a very refined but appreciated taste in music. JP is a huge Metal and thrash metal fan. You can really hear all of our influences blended together in our sound. We don’t have a genre we fit into, so early on we dubbed ourselves SPLASHCORE.

A little splash of this and a little splash of that. SplashCore from along the beautiful Hudson. Make of that what you will. Ironically, the last time we played before our break was the WABY 1 Year Anniversary show. Not much has changed with our sound besides having Zach back and the second guitar, but we do have some new tunes no one has heard us play yet.

You’re joining WABY for the three-year anniversary partyon Saturday, November 14th at Slidin’ Dirty in Troy. You’ll besharing the stage with a stacked lineup of local bands -punk-metal hybrid Blast-Craze, the ever sludgy and moody Black Tongue Reverend, and local powerhouse Joe Mansman & the Midnight Revival Band. Are you ready to rock the stage?

HELL YEAH BROTHER! So appreciative to be welcomed back!

What does this resurgence mean for the band? Can fans expect new music and shows coming ahead from the band?

We plan on recording some new songs we haven’t had a chance to record yet, and hopefully releasing some tracks that were recorded before our break.
